About Black Crown Act

Historically, Afrocentric hair has been on trend
in the Beauty and the fashion industry however African-Americans have been ridiculed or even persecuted for wearing their natural hair. It wasn’t until late 2019 where California, New York City, New Jersey and South Carolina have passed the Crown Act (as honorary titled) that stops discrimination towards natural hair texture. I was inspired to make a collection concentrated on the various hairstyles and hair textures worn by African-Americans.

I am using silhouettes and mimicking the
texture of hair, influences of several African tribes, and various techniques use for different hairstyles and also using news and laws that have centered around hair texture.
